Royal Botanic Gardens Photography competition – closing 31st October
Do you enjoy taking photographs or are just looking for an excuse to get out and enjoy the autumn colours? Check out the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh (RBGE) Photography competition. It is running a completion to showcase the utility and beauty of plant life. It’s a wonderful opportunity to have some fun and to perhaps win a substantial prize.
The competition has a number of categories; Plant Portrait, In the RBGE Gardens Abstract, Young Photographer, Useful Plants and The Fragile Landscape, the last two of which are sponsored by Bonaccord. There are category prizes of £250, an overall prize of £1000 and photographs shortlisted for the above categories are all eligible for the People's Choice Award of £500 chosen by visitors to the exhibition to be held at RBGE in the spring. Photographs can be taken anywhere in the world or right on your doorstep. If you are looking for something to do over half term or the weekend why not explore the RBGE gardens at one of their four Scottish sites? Take your camera and see what you can capture. There are lots of hidden gems waiting to be found too, while walking the dog, getting some fresh air with the kids or just exploring a part of your neighbourhood you don’t usually visit. It’s also a great way to clear your head of the mundane and experience the plant life on the various trails and paths, capturing a great memory with a picture that could earn you some money.
